The library has reference materials that may be used in the library on many topics including tenant/landlord law, Madison and Dane County ordinances, jury instructions, Wisconsin State Statutes, United States Code, and many other resources on family law, civil litigation, and criminal law. The public use computers have access to Westlaw (legal database) and other court resources as well as internet access and word processing software.

Paper versions of court forms and instructions are available for a small fee. There is a copy machine available for public use in the library. Copies and forms are 25 cents a page. The library takes payments by cash or by Visa/MasterCard. There is a three-dollar card minimum for the use of credit/debit cards. Staff can also direct you to the location of many forms and resources online. Most court forms and Dane County specific instructions are located on the Dane County Clerk of Courts Court Forms webpage.
Additional circuit court forms are located on the Wisconsin Court System website.
In person legal assistance programs are available weekly for help with small claims (including evictions), family law, and domestic abuse intervention services. These programs are located in room L1022, which is located around the corner from the library. The schedule also includes information for clinics provided by the University of Wisconsin Law School.
